Mark Blake attended Seguin HS where he was introduced to Athletic Training by AAATA Hall of Famer, P.D. Rost during his senior year. Following HS, Mark studied Physical Education and History at Southwest Texas State University.
During his college experience in the early 1980’s, Mark got a job working for Alert Sports, and affiliate of Alert Services, owned by Lem Cox. At that time, Alert Services was operated out of a basement building in downtown San Marcos. It was during this time Mark developed a friendship with co-worker David Stickelbault; they remain good friends today.
After college Mark continued working for Alert Services and in 1984 the business moved to its current location on Hwy 123, east of San Marcos. Working in the warehouse allowed Mark to gather product information pertaining to Athletic Training and Sports Medicine. Through this intel as well as meeting and working with area Athletic Trainers, Mark’s respect for the Athletic Training profession grew. In 1987, Mark’s work ethic with Alert Services rewarded him to begin Customer Service and Purchasing in the office setting. He was later promoted to Sales Manager; the position he currently holds.
In 2004, Mark was a faculty member and speaker at the Davis Mountains Sports Clinic. This organization, in 2011, honored Mark with the Everett Blackburn Memorial Award, recognition in outstanding and unselfish time and talents in service and improvements for the Athletic Training profession. Mark and Alert Services have been long time donors to the Alamo Area Athletic Trainers Association Student Trainer Workshop. The service, comradeship, and respect he shares with Athletic Trainers are reciprocated today as we welcome Mark Blake to the Alamo Area Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame.
